Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in his message on World Polio Day, said a polio-free Pakistan was the dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and that protecting every child in the country and securing a healthy future for them is a national responsibility we all share. He said the effective use of modern technology, sustained political commitment, strong coordination between the federal and provincial governments, and full public participation are essential to eradicating polio completely.

According to the press release issued by Bilawal House Media Cell, the PPP Chairman said that in 1994, despite fierce opposition from conservative elements and negative propaganda, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto launched the country’s first national anti-polio campaign. She personally administered polio drops to her own daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, first of all, sending a clear message that there can be no compromise on the health and safety of children.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has been working tirelessly for several years to make anti-polio efforts a success. Her struggle, he said, is an important step toward fulfilling Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s dream that no child in Pakistan should suffer lifelong disability because of polio.

He paid tribute to the workers serving in the anti-polio campaign, especially those carrying out their duties in remote and difficult areas, and described the polio workers who laid down their lives in the line of duty as national heroes. Their services and sacrifices, he said, will always be remembered.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appealed to the public to cooperate fully with polio teams. He reaffirmed that the PPP will continue its efforts to carry forward Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s mission and turn the dream of a polio-free Pakistan into reality.
