Rising Prices of Seeds, Fertilizers and Diesel Are Adding to Farmers’ Hardships; Agriculture Requires Urgent Attention
Islamabad: Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always represented the voice of the people and effectively raises public issues in Parliament to seek their resolution.
He said that skyrocketing inflation has made life increasingly difficult for the people, with poor families struggling to afford even two meals a day. Essential commodities are becoming increasingly unaffordable for ordinary citizens, while government policies have failed to provide effective relief from their economic hardships.
Nayyer Bukhari clarified that the Pakistan Peoples Party is not part of the federal cabinet. However, the party continues to play its constitutional and democratic role by highlighting public grievances and advocating solutions in Parliament. He said the PPP cannot be held responsible for the shortcomings and failures of government policies.
Commenting on the agricultural sector, Bukhari said that farmers and growers were compelled to sell wheat at Rs. 2,200 per maund last year, whereas Pakistan, despite being an agricultural country, is now importing wheat from abroad. He said this situation calls for serious reconsideration of agricultural policies and a comprehensive review of the problems confronting farmers.
He pointed out that the wheat sowing season has begun, but the prices of seeds, fertilizers and diesel have risen sharply. The increasing cost of agricultural inputs is placing an additional financial burden on farmers and could adversely affect the next harvest, national food requirements and the prices of essential food items.
Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari urged the government to consult the Pakistan Peoples Party on matters of national and public importance. He stressed the need for a consistent and effective strategy to control inflation, provide relief to farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
Emphasizing the importance of parliamentary supremacy, Bukhari further stated that the constitutionally prescribed procedures for legislation must be strictly followed in Parliament. He said adherence to constitutional requirements and parliamentary traditions is essential for strengthening democracy and upholding the supremacy of Parliament.
