Islamabad, 28 May 2021: Former Governor Punjab and President Pakistan Peoples Party South Punjab, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood has expressed concerns over the blocking of Sindh water by the federal government and said that the PTI government has illegally opened Taunsa-Panjnad link canal which has created a water crisis in Sindh.
In a statement, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood said that the federal government has failed to distribute water fairly in the country. By blocking the share of water of Sindh, the federal government has meted out brutality against Sindh.
He said that after the reduction in water supply by the federal government, there was severe shortage of water in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal and Thar. Shutting down Sindh water at the time of sowing crops would also be disastrous for rice cultivation and the cotton crop. He said that all Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have the right to get water under the agreed formula. He said that due to mismanagement of the government, there was a shortage of water in the dams.
