Reflecting on the historic moment when Benazir Bhutto took oath as Prime Minister, he recalled her words: \u201cI have avenged my father, for democracy is the best revenge.\u201d President Zardari emphasized that this guiding principle continues to shape the vision of the Pakistan Peoples Party, and that he, along with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, remains committed to pursuing the same path of political engagement and dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this while addressing a public gathering at the residence of President Pakistan People\u2019s Party South Punjab, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, during his visit to South Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the importance of lawful politics, the President warned against the use of arms or incitement against state institutions. Referring to unrest in certain regions, he stressed that those who attempt to provoke the public against the military serve the interests of Pakistan\u2019s enemies. \u201cI have always advised people that taking up weapons only harms your own community,\u201d adding that Pakistan\u2019s security forces were stationed to maintain peace and protect citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Zardari also noted the transformative impact of the information revolution, saying that today, facts can be verified quickly and misinformation cannot survive. He recalled the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, stating that the creation of Pakistan ensured the protection of rights and freedoms, particularly for minorities. He contrasted this with the situation in neighboring India, where he said religious divisions were exploited, preventing the country from advancing as a truly secular nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflecting on leadership, President Zardari stated, \u201cA true leader fights courageously, even if it means going to jail, but always protects their people and party. Mere loud rhetoric does not equate to sacrifice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that while some politicians may claim to be bold, their inability to endure hardships exposes their limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the role of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President Zardari praised his diplomatic achievements as Foreign Minister, noting that even foreign officials admired his capabilities. \u201cWe were offered to manage foreign affairs, but we gave the opportunity to the government.\u201d He said that they had promised to support the government and would stand committed to that promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing confidence in the Pakistan Peoples Party\u2019s future, he predicted that one day the party would achieve a two-thirds majority and take governance to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Zardari reaffirmed the party\u2019s commitment to democratic consultation, recalling the legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, who always sought public opinion before making key decisions. He said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was being trained in the same approach of people-centric leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing regional concerns, the President acknowledged the longstanding demand for a Saraiki province, explaining that it stems from the historical deprivation of South Punjab. He said that, keeping in view the sense of deprivation in this area, the Pakistan Peoples Party gave the prime ministership and governorship to South Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stressed that, as the President of the federation, he represents all provinces equally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting Pakistan\u2019s strategic potential, President Zardari said the country was situated in an ideal location, with a 1,100-mile coastline, offering significant opportunities for trade and development. He expressed confidence in Pakistan\u2019s bright future, emphasizing that the nation\u2019s progress depends on democracy, equitable governance, and public engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President reaffirmed his commitment to work for the prosperity of all citizens and the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that in the next elections, the government would focus on addressing the people\u2019s demands and ensuring that the Pakistan Peoples Party continues to strengthen democracy, safeguard public welfare, and lead the nation toward progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider expressed his gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit South Punjab, describing the visit as a significant morale booster for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers. He said the enthusiasm of party workers is proof that the future belongs to the PPP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Haider praised President Zardari\u2019s leadership following the tragic assassination of Benazir Bhutto, saying that he not only stabilized the party but also played a crucial role in maintaining national stability at a time when public anger threatened to disrupt the country. \u201cThe slogan \u2018Pakistan Khappay\u2019 raised by Zardari during that period will be written in golden letters in history,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the contributions of key party figures, the Governor said, \u201cMakhdoom Ahmed Mahmood was a source of pride for both the PPP and South Punjab.\u201d He noted that the PPP\u2019s leadership has historically made great sacrifices, citing Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who faced numerous allegations during his lifetime but is now recognized as one of the country\u2019s greatest leaders. He also paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto, emphasizing that she gave her life for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Haider further stated that no other leaders in the country match the level of vision and commitment demonstrated by Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Recalling Pakistan\u2019s successes in international relations and defense, he credited Zardari\u2019s strategic vision for strengthening Pakistan\u2019s ties with China during his 14 visits between 2008 and 2013, as well as for successfully countering India through advanced technology collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the strong Pakistan\u2013China friendship is a direct result of President Zardari\u2019s foresight and that, unlike India, which often misleads the international community, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has presented Pakistan\u2019s case effectively on the global stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Haider concluded by emphasizing the necessity of PPP governance for the country\u2019s progress, expressing confidence that President Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will continue to lead the nation forward. He also noted that Zardari\u2019s recent 12-day stay in Lahore had invigorated party workers there, and similarly, his visit to South Punjab has greatly motivated the PPP\u2019s grassroots supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood lauded the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers for their dedication and experience, calling them the driving force behind the party\u2019s success in the 2014 local government elections. \u201cIt is because of these committed workers that we are on this stage today. They are our pride, and they have ensured that three out of six seats in Rahim Yar Khan district belong to the PPP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He highlighted the historical role of the PPP in advancing regional autonomy, recalling that the 2008 provincial assembly unanimously passed resolutions for the creation of South Punjab and Bahawalpur provinces. These resolutions were later approved by the National Assembly and legislated in the Senate. He said, \u201cThe creation of South Punjab province is the voice of the people\u2019s heart and will open new avenues for development in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood also thanked the Sindh government for initiating projects such as the SIUT facility, which has benefited thousands of people. He announced plans to establish an IT institute in Rahim Yar Khan to provide local youth with access to high-quality education and skills training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing security challenges in the district, he noted that Rahim Yar Khan previously faced significant criminal activity, often testing the capabilities of security forces. He commended Police Officer Imran Samoo for effectively resolving these issues with professionalism and dedication. Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood requested President Asif Ali Zardari to nominate Officer Imran Samoo for a high-level award in recognition of his outstanding service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
