On Friday, the Pakistan Peoples Party nominated Faisal Mumtaz Rathore as its candidate for the office of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). The announcement was made during a press conference held outside Zardari House in Islamabad, addressed by PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin and former Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf.
Chaudhry Yasin stated that the PPP has chosen an experienced politician and the current Secretary General of PPP AJK, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, as the party’s candidate for the top office in Azad Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized the deep bond between the PPP and the people of AJK and highlighted the party’s unwavering support for Kashmir’s rights. He also praised the efforts and leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regarding the Kashmir cause.
Raja Pervez Ashraf confirmed that the PPP has the required majority in the AJK Legislative Assembly and expressed confidence in winning the no-confidence motion against the current Prime Minister of AJK. He said that the PPP will form a government in Kashmir with complete consensus, adding that the PPP is fully prepared to address the issues faced by the people of AJK. A strong government is needed to deal with the issues Kashmir is faced with, he stressed.
The PPP will submit the no-confidence motion against the current Prime Minister of AJK today, Friday, and after reaching an agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), expects the support of 40 assembly members. This alliance will enable the PPP to form a stable government in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
