“Nothing in black and white yet on 28th Amendment” PPP Secretary General

Pakistan Peoples Party Secretary General Nayyer Hussain Bukhari said that provincial autonomy must remain free from interference.

Speaking on Sunday, Bukhari stated that the PPP supported the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN) government in budget formulation. “However, the politics of the PPP and PMLN remain separate,” he said, adding that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari issued his statement keeping ground realities in view.

“PPP is a democratic party and considers it a responsibility to highlight public issues,” Bukhari said.

Commenting on the 28th Amendment, he noted that nothing has been presented in black and white so far. “The issue of NFC has been raised under the 28th Amendment. The provinces resolved the matter themselves and provided funds to the federation from their own resources,” he said.

Bukhari stressed that the public should be given their rights through local government elections.

“PPP won the local government elections with public support. MQM did not even participate, and Jamaat-e-Islami would have had a right to the mayorship only if the people had voted for them,” he said.

He urged MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami to show patience and allow the local government system to function in Karachi.
